Pick the stretch of I-25 you are on

Most of this interstate runs between towns, not through them. Choose the two places you are between to see the miles, the exits on that stretch, where the stops are and what to watch for. On I-25 in Wyoming, exit numbers follow the mileposts, so Exit 78 sits near mile 78.

MM02Wind, snow and closures

The four rules that decide a call on Wyoming I-25

Weather decides when a heavy unit can be reached here and how it gets recovered. These are the WYDOT rules we plan every corridor run around.

Closed to light, high-profile units

When gusts reach 60 mph or more, WYDOT can close a stretch to moving vans, campers, RVs, small trailers and empty or lightly loaded commercial vehicles. There is no single weight that makes travel safe. The minimum weights on the overhead message signs change with live wind speeds.

Blowover hot spots

WYDOT counted almost 40 blowover crashes in three days of December 2025 windstorms, many of them underweight units and some with empty trailers. Wyo Hill south of Cheyenne and Bordeaux south of Wheatland were named among the hot spots on I-25.

Full winter closures

Winter conditions have closed I-25 between Cheyenne and Wheatland outright. Driving a closed road without permission from WYDOT or the Highway Patrol can bring a fine of up to $750 and up to 30 days in jail.

Commercial chain law

When WYDOT posts chain law, commercial units chain the drive axle before they move. Never stop in a driving lane to chain up.

MM03Corridor work

Heavy units are most of what goes wrong out here

I-25 carries freight between Colorado and the rest of Wyoming, and north of Cheyenne it crosses open, high ground with long gaps between towns. When a big unit goes down on that ground, dispatch asks the questions before anything rolls.

  1. Tractors and trailers

Loaded or empty, broken down on the shoulder or blown over in the median. Our semi truck towing gets it off the corridor and where you need it.

  2. Buses, box trucks and work trucks

Tall, flat-sided units catch the wind, and a unit that goes over can end up in a ditch or on its side. Heavy-duty towing covers the recovery and the tow that follows.

  3. Planned moves

A disabled unit that needs to go home after the road reopens, or a machine that has to move up or down the corridor on a set day. We haul both.
