D&J Towing handles 24/7 towing in Golden, from Clear Creek Canyon and Lookout Mountain Road to the Golden Freeway and the blocks around Colorado School of Mines. Our trucks run out of the family yard in Evergreen, where D&J has worked the foothills since 1984.
Golden mixes a canyon highway, a mountain switchback road, a freeway and a college downtown inside a few miles. Here are four of the calls we run there, and where each one tends to happen.
Breakdowns and no-starts at any hour, holidays included. We tow to a shop in Golden, to your home, or to our approved storage yard in Evergreen, and we send a flatbed when the vehicle needs one.
Crashes in Clear Creek Canyon, on the Golden Freeway and at the US 6 junctions. Accident vehicles can come to our approved storage yard in Evergreen while the claim is sorted out.
A wheel off the edge on a Lookout Mountain switchback, a slide into a snowbank, or a car stuck at a muddy pull-off. We pull it back to solid ground, and if it still drives, you go on your way.
Jump starts, tire changes, lockouts and battery installs at trailhead lots, on Washington Avenue, or near campus. If the fix fails on the spot, the same call becomes a tow.
Every road out of Golden behaves differently. Tap the direction you were driving, or the center for downtown, to see what that road is like and what dispatch needs from you.
Not sure which way you were headed? Call and describe what you can see. Dispatch will place you.
US 6 leaves Golden where CO 93 and CO 58 meet and climbs west through Clear Creek Canyon to CO 119, then on to I-70 at exit 244 at the bottom of Floyd Hill. It runs between rock walls and through five working tunnels, and rock slides can close it. When that happens, CDOT sends traffic between Golden and Black Hawk over I-70 instead.
CO 93 starts at the mouth of Clear Creek Canyon and runs about 19 miles north along the foot of the mountains to Boulder. The main North Table Mountain trailhead lot sits on 93 just north of Pine Ridge Road. This open stretch catches strong wind, which matters most if you are pulling a trailer or driving something tall.
CO 58 is about 5.6 miles of freeway from the signal at US 6 and CO 93 east to I-70 at exit 265, with exits at Washington Avenue and McIntyre Street along the way. Once you are on the interstate itself, you are in our I-70 corridor towing coverage.
From the south and east, Golden is fed by I-70 exits 262 (Colfax Avenue, which links to US 6 through town), 263 (Denver West) and 264 (Youngfield Street and 32nd Avenue, which wraps around South Table Mountain into downtown). South of town, US 6 has an interchange with C-470.
Lookout Mountain Road switchbacks up from the west edge of town to Windy Saddle and the Buffalo Bill Museum, and it is part of the 40-mile Lariat Loop that drops down toward Evergreen and Morrison. Cyclists use it as a climb, and most stops happen at the pull-offs: Chimney Gulch near the bottom, the Lariat scenic view, and Windy Saddle, where the Beaver Brook trail starts.
Washington Avenue is the main street through downtown, and the Mines campus is a few blocks away. A dead battery or a lockout here is usually a curbside or parking lot job.
Golden sits where the plains run into the foothills, so the weather and the terrain change the tow before the truck ever leaves the yard. Here is what we plan around.
Heavy rain can bring rock down onto US 6, and CDOT closes the canyon while crews clear it. A vehicle stuck on the far side of a closure may have to come out through I-70 and CO 119. Tell us where the closure is and we will plan the route.
If your vehicle quits inside one of the canyon tunnels, turn on your hazards, stay buckled, and call 911 before you call us. The tow comes after the lane is protected.
High winds hit CO 93 between Golden and Boulder. If you are pulling a trailer or driving something tall, say so when you call.
Cell coverage drops in the canyons, and a call that cuts out is hard to place. Save (303) 674-0198 before you head up US 6 or Lookout Mountain, and give dispatch your location first if the signal is weak.
Golden is inside our Colorado coverage, which runs 50 miles out from our Evergreen towing yard. Dispatch answers 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
Quick answers for Golden. For anything else, dispatch picks up 24 hours a day at (303) 674-0198.
Yes. Golden is inside our Colorado coverage, and our trucks run there from the Evergreen yard at 30495 Bryant Dr. Dispatch answers 24/7, holidays included.
Call and tell us which side of the closure you are on and the nearest tunnel. The canyon can also be reached from its west end, through I-70 and CO 119, so a closure changes the route, not whether we come.
Yes. Give dispatch the shop name and address, and we tow it there. If the shop is closed, ask about bringing it to our yard first.
A canyon recovery and a curbside tow downtown are priced differently. Distance, vehicle size, how hard the recovery is, the weather and the equipment all count. Tell dispatch what happened and where, and ask for a quote on the call.
If we towed it and it did not go straight to a shop or your home, it is at our approved storage yard in Evergreen, and vehicles are released 24/7. Office hours are 7 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday and 9 AM to 5 PM on Saturday, with a $66 charge for releases outside those hours. See impound and release info for what to bring.
Canyon, mountain road, freeway or a lot downtown, the call is the same. Give dispatch your road, your direction and the nearest landmark, then wait somewhere safe while the truck heads your way.
