Towing in Morrison, CO

D&J Towing handles towing in Morrison, CO, around the clock, from the Red Rocks parking lots and the middle of town out to C-470, US 285 and I-70 at exit 259. Our yard sits at the top of Bear Creek Canyon in Evergreen, so Morrison is a straight run down the canyon for our trucks.

MM01Red Rocks show nights

A show-night plan for the Red Rocks lots

Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre sits right above town, and on a concert night its lots fill with cars that all try to leave at the same time. The problems that strand people there are usually small ones with bad timing: a dead battery, keys locked inside, a flat, or a wheel off the pavement. Pick a stage of the night.

Stage 1

Arriving at the park

  1. Park where traffic control directs you. Red Rocks opens its lots 2 hours before doors, and staff point each car to a space inside the park.
  2. Note your lot by name. The venue uses names like Upper North, Top Circle, Upper South, the Trading Post lot and Lower South Lot 2. Snap a photo of the nearest sign.
  3. Shut everything off. Headlights, dome lights and anything plugged into the dash. A long show is plenty of time to drain a weak battery.
  4. Pocket the fob. Some spaces mean a hike up to the gates, and a fob left on the seat is a lockout waiting to happen.
Bringing a trailer or an RV?

Red Rocks sends oversized vehicles, including RVs, buses and anything towing a trailer, to Lower South Lot 2, and they cannot be left overnight. If one of those breaks down in the park, tell dispatch it is oversized so we send the right truck.

Stage 2

While the car sits

  1. Save our number now. Put (303) 674-0198 in your phone before the show, not after, when you are standing in a dark lot.
  2. Leave a note for your group. Agree on which lot you parked in, so nobody has to guess where the car is at the end of the night.
  3. Cold nights are hard on batteries. A battery that barely started the car on the way in may not do it again after a chilly evening.
Not sure which lot you are in?

Ask event staff. Red Rocks directs show-night questions to them, and they can point you to the right lot before you walk the wrong way.

Call 24/7

Stage 3

Leaving after the encore

  1. Start the car before you load up. If it only clicks, you know right away and can call while the lot is still clearing.
  2. Stay with the vehicle. Do not try to push a stalled car through moving traffic in the lot. Hazards on, then call.
  3. Expect a wait for the lot to clear. After a big show the lots empty slowly, and a tow truck moves through that same traffic.
  4. Getting a ride instead? Rideshare, taxi and private pickups meet at the Jurassic Lot.
Car will not start?

Most no-starts in a parking lot come down to the battery. A jump start often gets you moving without a tow at all.

Call for a jump

Stage 4

What is wrong with the car?

Won't start Locked out Flat tire Off the pavement
Won't start

Tell dispatch whether it clicks, cranks slowly or does nothing. We start with a jump, and if the battery will not hold a charge we can install a new one or tow the car home or to your shop.

Locked out

We open vehicles for drivers locked out of their own car. See our vehicle lockout service. If a child or a pet is locked inside on a hot or cold night, call 911 first.

Flat tire

If you have a usable spare, we can change it right in the lot. No spare, or a damaged wheel, and the car rides home on a flatbed.

Off the pavement

A wheel dropped off the edge of a lot or into soft ground usually needs a winch-out, not a full tow. Do not keep spinning the tires, which digs the car in deeper.

Left it overnight?

Red Rocks says vehicles left overnight must be moved by 10 a.m. the next day, or they may be ticketed or towed. If your car would not start after the show, call us first thing in the morning and we will get it running or get it home.

MM02Morrison roads

Four ways in and out of town

Morrison sits where Bear Creek Canyon opens onto the plains, so a breakdown here can mean a canyon curve, a busy commuter road or a freeway shoulder within a few miles of each other. Here is what each one asks of the driver and the tow.

8R-01

CO 8 through town

CO 8 runs north through Morrison, then east as Morrison Road. Past C-470 it becomes a 55 mph expressway by Bear Creek Lake Park on the way to Lakewood. A stall here sits in steady commuter traffic, so pull as far right as you can before you call.

  • Breakdowns
  • Fender benders
  • Dead batteries
74R-02

CO 74, Bear Creek Canyon

From its junction with CO 8 in town, CO 74 winds west along Bear Creek through the canyon, past Idledale to Kittredge and on to Evergreen. It is the direct road between Morrison and our yard. In winter, shaded curves can hold ice long after the sun is out, and slide-offs are the call we plan for.

  • Slide-offs
  • Winch-outs
  • Accidents
470R-03

C-470 and US 285

C-470 meets Morrison Road at exit 4, and CO 8 begins at its interchange with US 285 south of town. Both are freeways. If you cannot get fully onto the shoulder, stay buckled in with your hazards on, and call 911 if you are stopped in a travel lane.

  • Freeway shoulders
  • Flat tires
  • Tows home
70R-04

County Road 93 to I-70

County Road 93 runs north from Red Rocks Entrance 2 to I-70 at exit 259. Heading west from there, you are in the stretch where CDOT enforces the traction law from Morrison to Dotsero between September 1 and May 31. More on the interstate is on our I-70 corridor page.

MM04Morrison questions

What Morrison drivers ask us

Short answers to the questions that come up around town and at the park. If your question is not here, dispatch will answer it on the phone.

Can you help my car in a Red Rocks parking lot after a concert?

Yes. Call (303) 674-0198, tell dispatch the lot name and what is wrong, and stay with the vehicle if you can. The lots clear slowly after a big show, so the truck moves through the same traffic you do.

Red Rocks says vehicles left overnight must be moved by 10 a.m. the next day, or they may be ticketed or towed. Oversized vehicles, including RVs, buses and anything with a trailer, cannot stay overnight at all. If your car will not start, call us in the morning and we will jump it or tow it home.

Yes. CO 74 through Bear Creek Canyon connects Morrison with our home yard in Evergreen, and we run it 24 hours a day for tows, slide-offs and breakdowns.

It depends on the distance, the type of vehicle, how hard the recovery is, the time and conditions, and the equipment the job needs. Call, and dispatch will quote your situation before the truck rolls. We take cash, Mastercard and Visa.

MM05Trucks and 4x4s

Jeeps, lifted trucks and AWD, on the flatbed

Plenty of what drives through Morrison is built for the hills: Jeeps, lifted pickups, AWD wagons and SUVs. Many of those ride home safer with all four wheels off the road, which is why a flatbed is often the right truck.

  • AWD and 4x4
  • Lifted trucks
  • Won't roll
  • Low or classic cars

Tell dispatch the make and model when you call, along with anything unusual like oversized tires or a damaged wheel. It decides which truck comes. Read more about flatbed towing, or if the rig is stuck on a trail rather than in town, ask about off-road recovery.

Stuck in Morrison? Tell us the lot or the road.

The Red Rocks lot name, the road and your direction, or the last exit you passed is all dispatch needs to get a truck moving. D&J has been a family-owned towing company in the foothills since 1984, and we cover Golden to the north as well.
