D&J Towing provides Black Hawk towing around the clock on Central City Parkway, on CO 119 along North Clear Creek and in the casino parking garages and lots in town. If you drove up for the day and have no local tow company saved, D&J is a family-owned towing company based in Evergreen since 1984.
Black Hawk pulls in drivers from all over the Front Range and from out of state, and plenty of them have never needed a tow in the mountains. The car that ran fine on the way up will not start in the garage. A tire goes flat on the parkway heading home. The keys end up on the driver's seat of a locked car. You do not need to know the area. You need a tow company that does.
Call (303) 674-0198 at any hour, holidays included. Tell dispatch where the vehicle is, what it is doing and where it needs to go, whether that is a shop near home, a dealer or your own driveway. Ask for a quote on the call so you know the cost before the truck rolls. If you are an AAA member, say so; D&J serves AAA members.
Black Hawk is one of the foothill towns on our Colorado towing map, along with Evergreen, Golden and the I-70 corridor.
Two roads climb to Black Hawk, and a driver gets to you faster when dispatch knows which one you are on. Tap the stop closest to your vehicle and choose whether you were arriving or heading home. The diagram is a simple sketch, not to scale.

Stop 1
I-70 at Exit 243
Exit 243 is the Central City Parkway interchange on I-70, about 3 miles east of Idaho Springs. If you stopped on the interstate itself, our I-70 corridor towing page covers the mile markers on this stretch.
Tell us you were leaving I-70 at Exit 243 to head up the parkway.
Tell dispatch
Whether you are on I-70, on the ramp or at the top of the ramp
Which way you were driving on I-70 before the exit
The vehicle, and where it needs to go
Stop 2
Central City Parkway
The parkway runs 8.4 miles on four lanes from Exit 243 to Central City, with one public exit in between: Hidee Mine Road, at about mile 6.3. With so few cross streets, that exit and your distance from I-70 are the best way to place your car.
Tell us you were climbing from I-70 toward Central City.
Tell dispatch
Which side of the parkway you are on
About how far you are from I-70 or from the Hidee Mine Road exit
Shoulder or travel lane
Stopped in a travel lane, or anyone hurt? Call 911 first, then call us.
Stop 3
Central City into Black Hawk
The parkway ends in Central City, which sits nearly 500 feet higher than Black Hawk. Nevada Street and Black Hawk Street carry you downhill into Black Hawk and out to CO 119, on town streets with casino traffic and tight parking.
Tell us you were driving down from Central City into Black Hawk.
Tell dispatch
The street name and the nearest casino or business sign
Parked, stalled in the street or sitting in a lot
Whether the car is wedged into a tight or sloped spot
Stop 4
The US 6 signal
CO 119 starts at a signal on US 6 in Clear Creek Canyon, between Golden and Idaho Springs. Drivers coming up from Denver through Golden reach this turn after the canyon run on US 6.
Tell us you were on US 6 heading for the turn onto CO 119.
Tell dispatch
US 6 or CO 119, and which side of the signal
Toward Golden or toward Idaho Springs
Any pull-off, bridge or sign you can see
Stop 5
CO 119 along North Clear Creek
From the signal, CO 119 follows North Clear Creek north to Black Hawk and keeps going toward Nederland. Casino traffic runs both ways in a narrow canyon, so a car stopped in a lane here is a 911 call first and a tow call second.
Tell us you were driving up CO 119 toward Black Hawk.
Tell dispatch
Up toward Black Hawk or down toward US 6
Shoulder, pull-off or travel lane
About how far you are from the signal or from town
In a lane or in a crash with injuries? Call 911 first, then call us.
Stop 6
A casino garage or lot
Parking garage entrances commonly post a clearance of about 7 feet, which is lower than a typical tow truck. The level you parked on and that posted height decide how the car gets reached and brought out, so give us both before we roll.
Tell us you had just parked or were pulling in.
Tell dispatch
The casino or garage name, the level and the row or spot
The clearance posted at the entrance
That you have let garage security know a tow is coming
A day in Black Hawk usually ends with a long drive home, so small problems turn into big ones fast. These are the services that fit what goes wrong up here.
Keys locked inside a car on a garage level or in a casino lot. Give dispatch the garage name and level. If a child or a pet is locked in the car, call 911 first.
Black Hawk sits at about 8,000 feet, and cold nights are hard on a weak battery. Jump starts, tire changes and battery installs happen where the car sits, so a no-start in the garage may not need a tow at all.
Breakdowns and crashes on CO 119 and the parkway, at any hour. We tow to the shop, dealer or home address you choose, and accident vehicles can go to our approved storage yard in Evergreen.
All-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive vehicles, low cars and anything with a damaged wheel usually ride on a flatbed for the long trip down the hill, with all four wheels off the road.

Snow, grades and the traction law
Black Hawk sits around 8,000 feet, higher than Denver by more than half a mile, and both roads in are mountain roads with long grades. Weather that is rain in the city can be snow up here.
Law
Traction law on state highways
CDOT can put the traction law in effect on any state highway in a storm, CO 119 included. On I-70 from Morrison to Dotsero it applies from September 1 to May 31 or when conditions require.
Tires
What your tires need
Under the traction law, vehicles need mountain-snowflake, M+S or all-weather tires with at least 3/16 inch of tread, a 4WD or AWD vehicle with that tread, or chains or another approved traction device. A fine starts at $100, plus a surcharge.
Grade
Slide-offs and stalls
A car that slides off the parkway or CO 119 often sits below the road or against a bank. Stay buckled in if it is safe, call 911 if anyone is hurt, then call us.

What visitors ask before they call
Still unsure? Call dispatch and ask. A quick call costs nothing and gets you a straight answer.
My car is in a casino parking garage. Can you get it out?
Call with the garage name, the level, your spot and the clearance posted at the entrance. A tow truck is taller than most garage entrances, so those details tell us how the car can be reached. A dead battery or a lockout can often be handled right in the spot. Let garage security know a tow is on the way.
How much does a tow from Black Hawk cost?
Ask for a quote when you call. Distance matters most, since a tow back to a shop or home in the metro is a long trip down the hill. The vehicle, how it sits, and the time and conditions also count.
Can you tow my car home instead of to a local shop?
Tell dispatch where you want the vehicle to go, whether that is your driveway, your regular mechanic or a dealer. We will tell you what the trip involves and quote it on the call.
Do you work with AAA?
Yes. D&J serves AAA members. Mention your membership when you call.
How can I pay?
We accept cash, Mastercard and Visa.
Stuck in Black Hawk? One call gets you home.
Tell dispatch which road you took, where the car sits and where it needs to go. Garage level, parkway lane or a pull-off on CO 119, a D&J driver comes up the hill for it, day or night.
