Winch-outs
Slide-offs on icy driveways, snowbanks along the Parkway, and ditches on county roads. We pull the vehicle back to solid ground, and if it can still drive, you go on your way.
Winch-out serviceD&J Towing runs 24/7 towing in Evergreen from our own yard on Bryant Drive, just off the Evergreen Parkway. Evergreen has been home base for this family-owned company since 1984, so a call from Bergen Park, downtown, or a steep driveway up the hill goes to trucks that are already in town.
Evergreen roads change fast, from a four-lane parkway to a two-lane canyon in a few miles. Pick the spot closest to you to see what we deal with there and what to tell dispatch so the right truck heads your way.
North of downtown, CO 74 runs as a four-lane divided parkway past Bergen Park and up to I-70 at exit 252, with frontage roads along parts of it. Our yard sits just off this stretch, so a Parkway breakdown is about as close to our trucks as a call gets.
CO 74 narrows to two lanes as it comes into town, with a tight curve along the north shore of Evergreen Lake where Upper Bear Creek Road comes in. Weekends bring day-trip traffic to the shops and restaurants, so we set up the hookup around parked cars and people on foot.
East of downtown, CO 74 becomes Bear Creek Road and follows the creek through the canyon toward Kittredge, Idledale and Morrison. It is two lanes with tight curves and rock walls, and it is far slower than the Parkway. A vehicle stopped on a curve here is a hazard to you and to everyone behind you.
CO 73 leaves CO 74 just below Evergreen Lake and runs south to US 285 at Conifer. Drivers use it to reach 285 without going through Morrison, so it carries steady traffic. We cover the whole run, and the same trucks keep going once you are on 285.
Steep, winding driveways come with living in the hills around Evergreen. Add mud or ice and a two-wheel-drive van or truck can lose grip with nowhere to go, which is the call Amber M. describes below. Pulling a vehicle back onto solid ground is a winch-out, and it is usually done right where the vehicle sits.
Evergreen calls run from our Bryant Drive yard. Here is how four of our services play out on Evergreen roads and driveways. Each card opens the full service page.
Slide-offs on icy driveways, snowbanks along the Parkway, and ditches on county roads. We pull the vehicle back to solid ground, and if it can still drive, you go on your way.
Winch-out serviceBreakdowns and no-starts at any hour, holidays included. We tow to the shop or the address you choose, and we bring a flatbed when the vehicle needs one.
24/7 emergency towingJump starts, tire changes, lockouts and battery installs at your house, a trailhead, or a lot downtown. If the fix does not work on the spot, the same call becomes a tow.
Roadside assistanceCrashes on CO 74 and in Bear Creek Canyon, and vehicles that left the road and ended up in the trees. Accident vehicles can come to our approved storage yard here in Evergreen while the claim gets sorted out.
Accident recoveryEvergreen sits at about 7,162 feet and averages roughly 81 inches of snow a year, with March usually the snowiest month. That timing matters for towing. Spring storms land on ground that is already thawing, so a driveway can be mud in one spot and ice in the next.
Two-wheel-drive vans and work trucks lose grip first on a slick climb.
When you call, tell dispatch the grade, the surface and the vehicle. That tells the driver how to set up before pulling in, and it lets us quote the job straight. A vehicle that has gone off a county road may need a winch-out first and a tow second.
"D&J Towing helped us out when we were really in a bind in Evergreen. An electrician working at our property got stuck in our extremely steep driveway because of mud and ice. He was in a two-wheel-drive Sprinter van and had no chance of getting out on his own. We called D&J, and they arrived within about 15 minutes and quickly pulled him out with no issues. What impressed me even more was their honesty. They actually charged me less than the amount they originally quoted. Fast, professional, and fair. I would absolutely recommend D&J Towing to anyone who needs help in the Evergreen area."
The map is centered on Evergreen. Our trucks leave from Bryant Drive, north of downtown, and reach every road on it from there.
Bryant Drive meets the Evergreen Parkway north of downtown. From the yard, trucks pull onto CO 74 and head north toward Bergen Park or south into town.
The Parkway climbs north to I-70 at exit 252 in El Rancho. Breakdowns on the interstate itself fall under our I-70 corridor towing coverage.
Below the lake, CO 74 turns east as Bear Creek Road and runs through the canyon to Kittredge and on to Morrison.
Our Colorado coverage runs 50 miles from Evergreen, south on CO 73 to Conifer and US 285 and out across the foothills.
Short answers to the questions we hear most from people in town. For anything else, dispatch picks up 24 hours a day at (303) 674-0198.
Yes. Our yard is at 30495 Bryant Dr, Evergreen, CO 80439, and D&J has been family-owned and based in Evergreen since 1984. Dispatch answers 24 hours a day, every day of the year, holidays included.
Call and describe it: how steep it is, paved or gravel, how tight the turns are, and where the vehicle sits. Dispatch uses that to pick the truck and the approach. A vehicle stuck on a driveway often needs a winch-out rather than a tow.
It depends on the vehicle, the distance, how hard the recovery is, the time and conditions, and the equipment the job needs. Tell dispatch what happened and where, and ask for a quote on the call.
Vehicles are released 24/7 from our Evergreen yard. Office hours are 7 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday and 9 AM to 5 PM on Saturday, and a release outside those hours carries a $66 after-hours charge. See impound release info for what to bring.
We serve AAA members, and we accept cash, Mastercard and Visa.
Call dispatch, tell us which spot you are near and what the vehicle is doing, and stay somewhere safe while the truck comes from Bryant Drive. Day or night, snow or dry, the number is the same.
