Roadside assistance: fixed on the shoulder, or towed off it

D&J Towing provides 24/7 roadside assistance across the Colorado foothills and Denver metro for dead batteries, flat tires, and keys locked inside the car. If the problem can be fixed where you are parked, we fix it there. If it can't, the same phone call gets you a tow, so you never start over with a second company.

Roadside verdictWaiting
  • Clicks or cranks slowly: usually a jump start.
  • Battery keeps dying or is several years old: usually a battery replacement.
  • Cranks normally but never starts: usually a tow.
  • Flat with a usable spare: a roadside tire change. No spare or a bent wheel means a tow.
  • Locked out: a roadside fix. A child or pet inside means call 911 first.
  • Smoke, overheating, brake, steering, or shifting trouble: a tow.

Pick what your vehicle is doing

Start with the warnings in step 1. Most dead batteries, flats, and lockouts are fixed where the vehicle sits.

MM02Roadside services

Roadside fixes we handle where your vehicle sits

Each roadside service has its own page with the details. Every card also tells you the point where a roadside fix stops making sense and a tow is the better call.

R-01

Jump start service

A battery too weak to crank the engine, often after a cold night, lights left on, or a car that sat for a while. We bring the power to you and get the engine running.

Tow if the engine cranks at normal speed and still will not start.

R-02

Roadside battery replacement

When a battery will not hold a charge anymore, a jump only buys you a few miles. Battery installation at the roadside swaps it out where you are parked, so you are not chasing the same problem tomorrow morning.

Tow if a good battery still goes flat, which points to the charging system.

R-03

Roadside tire change

A flat swapped for your spare on the shoulder, in a parking lot, or in your driveway, including large, heavy tires on lifted trucks.

Tow if there is no usable spare, or the wheel itself is bent or cracked.

Vehicle lockout service

Keys locked inside at a trailhead, a ski lot, or the grocery store. We open the door and get you back on your way. If a child or a pet is inside, call 911 first.

Lockout help

24/7 emergency towing

When the vehicle cannot be fixed safely where it sits, it rides to your shop, your home, or our yard, any hour of the day or night.

MM03Mountain conditions

Why roadside calls run differently in the foothills

A jump start in a flat parking lot and a jump start on a canyon pull-off at 6 AM in January are not the same job. These are the conditions that decide how a roadside call goes up here.

Cold
Cold nights drain batteries

A battery delivers less cranking power in the cold, while a cold engine takes more power to turn over. A battery that was fine in September can fail on the first hard freeze.

Grade
Sloped drives and pull-offs

Changing a tire or jumping a car on a steep cabin drive or a gravel pull-off takes careful placement and wheel chocks before anyone picks up a wrench.

US 285
Thin shoulders

Parts of US 285 and CO 74 leave barely enough room to stop. When there is no safe space to work beside traffic, a tow is often safer than a roadside fix.

Signal
Spotty cell service

Coverage drops in the canyons. Save our number now so you are not searching for it with one bar.

"Was broke down on a not great part of 285, hardly a shoulder, then up hill from there, on a curve, in a rain storm. Jeremiah was there super quick and was so nice in a stressful situation. I really appreciate him. Thank you so much!"

MM05Roadside questions

Roadside assistance questions

The questions drivers ask most often, from the shoulder or before they ever need us. Anything else, call dispatch and ask.

Can you fix my vehicle where it is, or will it need a tow?

Jump starts, battery replacement, flat tire changes, and lockouts are all done where the vehicle sits. If the fix will not hold, or the problem turns out to be something else, the same call becomes a tow to your shop, your home, or our yard.

Yes. If your battery will not hold a charge, we install a new one where the vehicle is parked. Our roadside battery replacement page explains the warning signs.

It depends on the service you need, where you are, the time of day, the road and weather conditions, and your vehicle. Dispatch can quote it on the phone. We accept cash, Mastercard, and Visa.

Yes. We have changed large, heavy tires on lifted trucks, including a 35-inch tire. Tell dispatch the tire size when you call.

Pull as far off the road as you can and turn on your hazard lights. If there is a safe place well away from traffic, wait there. If there is not, stay in the vehicle with your seat belt on. If anyone is hurt, or a child or pet is locked inside, call 911 first.

Yes. Roadside assistance runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, holidays included.

Dead battery, flat tire, or locked out? Call us.

Tell dispatch where you are, what you are driving, and what it is doing. We will talk through whether it sounds like a roadside fix or a tow, and give you a quote before you decide.
