D&J Towing handles police towing and municipal towing for law enforcement and public agencies across the Colorado foothills and Denver metro. Crash scenes, impounds, abandoned vehicles, held vehicles, road clearance and city or county fleet units all run through one 24/7 dispatch line.
Each of these starts with a request from an officer or a public agency, not the vehicle owner. That changes who signs off on the tow, where the vehicle goes, and who decides when it can be released.
The officer runs the scene. Our operator loads each disabled vehicle once the officer clears it and takes it where the officer directs, most often our approved storage yard. Vehicles down an embankment or in the trees fall under our accident recovery work.
After a DUI arrest, or when a vehicle has no valid license or insurance behind it, the officer orders it off the road. It comes to our yard, and release is available 24/7 once any agency hold is cleared.
Colorado treats a vehicle left unattended on public property for 48 hours or longer as abandoned, unless a city ordinance sets a different limit inside town limits C.R.S. 42-4-1802. The agency tags it, orders the tow and runs the owner notice.
When an agency needs a vehicle kept for an investigation, it stays at our yard until the agency authorizes release. The owner gets that release from the agency first, then calls us.
Vehicles that are stalled or blocking the road, moved off the highway right-of-way at an officer's or road agency's request, on I-70, US 285, CO 74, CO 119 and the roads between them.
Patrol cars, public works trucks and other city or county vehicles that break down, from light-duty cars to heavy trucks. Departments that want a standing account can set one up through fleet towing.
D&J Towing has worked these foothill roads since 1984. Officers, dispatchers and public works crews reach one number that is answered 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, holidays included.
Our team includes WreckMaster and I-TECC certified professionals, and the work covers light-, medium- and heavy-duty units, so a patrol car, a box truck and a loaded semi go to the same dispatch. Every vehicle we store sits in an approved yard with 24/7 release.

An officer or agency dispatcher calls (303) 674-0198, day or night. Give the location, how many vehicles, what kind they are, how each one sits, and whether any are being held.
On a police tow, the owner usually is not the one who calls. If you are at the scene, ask the officer which company is coming and where the vehicle is going.
Our operator works under the officer's direction and loads each vehicle once it is cleared to go. Passing drivers must move over a lane for a stopped tow truck with its lights on when they safely can C.R.S. 42-4-705.
If the officer allows it, take out what you will need in the next few days: phone, wallet, medications, house keys and child seats. Everything else rides to the yard with the vehicle.
For an abandoned vehicle, Colorado law has the agency give the tow operator written authorization listing the year, make, model, VIN and storage location C.R.S. 42-4-1803. On other tows, tell our operator about any hold so it goes on the record.
Ask the officer, or the agency later, for the case or report number. Having it on hand makes every call about the vehicle shorter.
The vehicle is stored at our approved yard in Evergreen. For abandoned vehicles, the agency reports the tow to the state motor vehicle division within ten working days, then mails notice to the owner of record and any lienholder C.R.S. 42-4-1804.
If your vehicle was towed as abandoned, the mailed notice says it may be sold unless it is claimed within 30 calendar days, and it explains how to request a hearing within 10 days.
A held vehicle stays put until the agency authorizes release. Call dispatch to lift a hold or to send a stored vehicle somewhere else.
Clear any hold with the agency, then call us. Release is available 24/7. Do not wait: a vehicle impounded at police request and not claimed within 72 hours after the owner is told it is available can be treated as abandoned C.R.S. 42-4-1802.
If D&J Towing picked up your vehicle at an officer's request, it is at our approved storage yard. We can tell you over the phone that it is here, whether a hold is on it, and what is owed to get it out.
Two answers have to come from the agency, not from us: why the officer ordered the tow, and when a hold is lifted. If you are not sure there is a hold, call the agency first. It saves you a wasted trip.
The statutes cited here are summaries, not legal advice. For your own case, the requesting agency has the final word on holds and notices.
Call the agency about why the vehicle was towed, a case number, or lifting a hold. Call D&J at (303) 674-0198 about where the vehicle is, what is owed, and picking it up.
If there is no agency hold, yes. Release is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If the agency placed a hold, it has to authorize release before we can hand the vehicle over.
Under C.R.S. 42-4-1802, a vehicle left unattended on public property for 48 hours or longer is abandoned. Inside a city or town, a local ordinance can set a different limit. A vehicle impounded at police request and not claimed within 72 hours after the owner is told it is available can also be treated as abandoned.
Yes. Under C.R.S. 42-4-1804, the agency reports the tow to the state motor vehicle division and then mails notice to the owner of record and any lienholder. The notice says the vehicle may be sold unless claimed within 30 calendar days and explains how to request a hearing within 10 days.
Yes. We tow city and county units of every size, from patrol cars to heavy trucks, and offer fleet support for departments that want a standing account. Call dispatch or email djtowing699@gmail.com to set it up.
Officers and public works crews reach dispatch any hour, any day. Owners picking up a vehicle from our yard can call ahead so we confirm it is ready, tell you the total, and have the release paperwork waiting.
